Political Minute: Political Humour

“’The Hunger Games’ is opening this weekend. The movie is based on the books where people are chosen in a lottery to compete in a televised battle to the death. Why can't we do this to the Republican primaries? Wouldn't that be great?” –Jay Leno

“Mitt Romney got a big endorsement this week. The bad news: It was from Etch A Sketch.” –Jay Leno

“Did you see the story about the mother duck and her ducklings helped through a a fence at the White House property? The Secret Service pushed the little ducks through the fence. Of course, the Secret Service checked to make sure the ducks had donated enough money to President Obama's re-election campaign.” –Jay Leno

“Jeb Bush has come out and endorsed Mitt Romney. He said it was the hardest decision he's had to make since endorsing his brother, George W.” –Jay Leno

“Newt Gingrich today said he’s jealous because the only tool he ever gets compared to is a dildo.” –Bill Maher on Mitt Romney being compared to an Etch-A-Sketch

"Rick Santorum said he’s not an Etch-A-Sketch. He said what you see is what you get, and also because turning the two knobs is a little too much like playing with boobies.” –Bill Maher

"Then he held up the Etch-A-Sketch and Sarah Palin said, 'Hey, give me back my iPad.'” –Bill Maher

“This law they have in Florida, this “stand your ground’ law where you can use can use any amount of force if you think there is some amount of perceived threat; good thing they don’t’ have that here because my lawn would be littered with Jehovah’s Witnesses.” –Bill Maher

“New Rule: Now that John Boehner has cried while listening to traditional Irish music at the St. Patrick's Day luncheon it's not funny anymore. Seriously, John, tell us: where did the priest touch you? Show me on the doll.” –Bill Maher

“At the White House this week, President Obama and the first lady hosted a St. Patrick’s Day reception for the Irish prime minister. They had a bartender pouring green beer, which is about as close as the White House has come to creating green jobs so far.” –Jay Leno

“The candidates are choosing their Secret Service code names. Why do they tell us? You’d think that should be secret.” –Jay Leno

“Mitt Romney picked ‘Javelin’ as his Secret Service code name. Rick Santorum chose ‘Petris’ because that’s his grandfather’s name. Barack Obama chose ‘Gas prices are not my fault.’” –Jay Leno

“Yesterday was a crazy day for Tim Tebow. They said he was with the Jets, then they said there was a snag, he might not be. Then they said he could go with the Rams or with the Jaguars. The last two days he's been traded back and forth more than Rod Blagojevich on that first night in prison.” –Jay Leno

“There are reports that John Edwards visited a brothel here in New York while running for president and paid with campaign funds. Do you realize what this could do to his reputation? Absolutely nothing. Absolutely nothing to that man’s reputation.” –Jimmy Fallon

"Rick Santorum wants to ban pornography. That's one of the few thriving industries America has left." –David Letterman

"This weekend President Obama will visit the border that separates North and South Korea. Not to be outdone, Newt Gingrich will visit the border that separates the KFC from the Taco Bell." –Jimmy Fallon

"President Obama is calling on Iran to give its citizens better access to the Internet. Right now they only have one social networking site: 'Cover-Your-Face Book.'" –Jimmy Fallon

When I heard the Republicans were in President Obama's home state, I said, 'They're holding a primary in Kenya?'" –Craig Ferguson

"Some top Republicans are urging Newt Gingrich to leave the race, but he says he's sticking around. If they could get him to marry the race, he would probably leave it eventually." –Jimmy Kimmel

“This Wednesday Mitt Romney goes one-on-one in a debate against the one man who stands in the way of his nomination: Mitt Romney." –Jimmy Kimmel

"Last week a tourist in Puerto Rico took a picture of Rick Santorum shirtless on the beach. I don’t want to say he looked chubby, but his new Secret Service code name is 'Newt Gingrich.'" –Jimmy Fallon

"According to a new book, President Obama blames Fox News for his political problems and losing voters. How could Fox News lose voters? If you're watching Fox News, you're probably not voting for him in the first place." –Jay Leno

Political Minute: Third Party Candidates

Today, I was curious as to who else was running for president besides the obvious Obama, and whoever wins the Republican Primary. Boy, was I surprised when I came across this list of candidates.

36 Democrats
90 Republicans
5 Americans Elect
1 Americas Party
10 Constitutional Party
7 Green Party
1 Justice Party
17 Libertarians
3 Socialists
1 Prohibition Party
2 Reform Party
102 Independent/Write-in Candidates
For a total of 275 Candidates this election year.

Personally, I find this to be completely ridiculous, but also side splitting funny. There are at least 85 candidates that are running as complete jokes. This article might run a little long, but bear with me, as it should be quite entertaining.

Bob Ely, Democrat(http://workmorekeepless.com/): One of my personal favorites.  His website boasts "A half dozen reasons to vote for me."
1. If You’re Unemployed, I’ll Get You a Job THAT You Might Not Like

2. I Want to Make it Easier for You To Get Fired

3. I Will Raise Taxes on the Wealthy and Maybe the Not So Wealthy

4. I’ll Dream Up Lots of Other Taxes

Jeff Siggins, Write-in(http://www.jeffprezpope.com/): He's running for both president and pope. What more can I say?

Mike "Doc" Witort, Write-in(http://www.wakeupwell.org/):
"Doc" Mike is NOT approved by the American Medical Association.
"Doc" Mike is NOT approved by the Illinois Attorney General.
"Doc" Mike is NOT approved by the American Cancer Society.
"Doc" Mike is NOT approved by the American Heart Association.
"Doc" Mike is NOT approved by the American Diabetes Association.
"Doc" Mike is NOT approved by the Illionois Autism Society.
Yet, he knows what's best for America

The Naked Cowboy, Republican(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naked_Cowboy#Presidential_candidacy.2C_2012): Yep, that's right, the singing sensation that runs around in his briefs is running.

J. Pall Hadd(https://twitter.com/#!/JPHaddadi): Here's what he says about himself.  "Founder of a holiday (Uncle's Day, First Wednesday in January.) Presidential candidate. Re-inventor of the wheel and other popular items."

Jimmy McMillan, Democrat(http://www.rentistoodamnhigh.org/): THE RENT IS TOO DAMN HIGH!

Mike Moloney(http://www.mikemoloneyforpresident.com/): I don't even...

Ole' Savior, Republican(http://www.olesavior.org/): Pretty serious candidate, except the whole "Ole' Savior" thing.

Roseanne, Democrat(http://www.roseanneworld.com/blog/home.php): It's Roseanne. Vote for her.

Rutherford B. Hayes(http://motherjones.com/mojo/2010/10/rutherford-b-hayes-interview): I mean, with a name like that, how could you not vote for him? He's quick to point out in his interview that he is by no means related to "the disgraced and undemocratically elected nineteenth president, Rutherford Birchard Hayes"

Aleister Crowley(http://ac2012.com/): Yes, he's dead. No, he wasn't an American citizen. Seems legit.

Vermin Supreme, Democrat(http://www.verminsupreme.com/): He's a meme. He wears a boot on his head. He promises free ponies to all Americans. His first law will be mandatory dental hygiene. He's got my vote.

Okay, this last guy is my personal favorite. President Emperor Caesar, ALL PARTIES(http://images.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/fecimg/?P8000322: The only thing you can find on this guy is his Certificate of Candidacy. I'm completely in love with this guy. If only I could find more about him.

With 275 candidates, I'm sure there's more silly candidates. Do some research and find out who's the right one for you.

The Book Store, Extras

Greetings, Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Dresden.

So I realized recently that I've been giving really good scores to books that I've read, and I figured that I should be clearer as to why that is.

See, I don't really read books that I don't like. I can't finish them, and for that matter, I usually enjoy books once I start reading them, and that perhaps colors my perception. For my next review, I'll do one of the few books I truly hated.

As always, this is Dresden, signing off.

The Book Store 7

Good Evening, Ladies and Gents, this is Dresden for The Book Store.

Today, I'll be reviewing "Revenge of the Sith" by Matthew Stover. This is the novelization of the third Star Wars movie, so I'm not even going to bother putting any plot in. You all know how this story goes, and if you don't, stop what you're doing, turn off your computer, and go to your local video rental store and get the movie. Then watch it. Watch it until your eyes bleed.

Welcome back, hope you enjoyed that experience. Though I'm usually a bit leery of books written about a movie, I thoroughly enjoyed this version of the third chapter in the classic Star Wars story. It adhered to the plot of the movie exceptionally well, and, at the same time, improved on the faults of the movie's narrative. I especially loved how Stover threw in so much symbolism and allegory, yet still kept the novel believable and fast paced. The characterization in this book is much deeper than even in the movie, and I loved every second of Stover's magnificent writing.

Review Score: 9/10

The Biz on Vidz: BATTLE TIME! Superman vs. The Hulk

What up, err'body! Now, I know that I'm not the only person who used to wonder, "Who would win in a fight: Superman or The Hulk?" Well, this video will give you a good look at how a battle between these two God-like beings might go down if they were to duke it out! With laser-eyes, super-strength, and flying headbutts, these videos should give all of you an entertaining fight! Although there are currently only two parts to this fight (three if you count the video of their initial meeting), there will be another one made later on. I did not make these videos, so please don't yell at me to hurry up and make more! You can post a comment, if you want, and tell me who you think will win! (Personally, I put my money on superman). Here are links to the fight, along with the initial meeting:

Part 2

P.S. Also, if you would rather I post the videos directly on the blog/post instead of posting the links to the videos, tell me and I'll try to make adjustments for you guys (and girls *winky face*)!

Political Minute: Why is Ron Paul Still Running?

As the primaries begin to wind down, many of us are wondering why Dr. Ron Paul is still running for the nomination. Well here's the reasons why.

Ron is quoted in saying, "Politicians don't amount to much, but ideas do." In other words, for Paul, it's about the message, not the office, says Ford O'Connell, chairman of the conservative Civic Forum PAC in Washington, D.C. "His intent is not to seek further office. He's trying to start a conversation about the direction of the country and the GOP."

It's the "Ron Paul Revolution". He doesn't want the nomination, per se, he wants to see a change in America. A change that we quite possibly could use. Maybe not quite as radical as his views, but his views are radical enough to leave a small impression on the younger crowd he has attained.

It wouldn't be the first time an upstart candidate has helped rechart the direction of the GOP. Until the 1960s, the Republican Party was largely an Eastern elitist organization. Though Barry Goldwater lost badly to incumbent Lyndon Johnson in the 1964 presidential election, he used his campaign to strengthen the resurgence of the conservative political movement throughout the 1960s.

It may be a long shot, but Paul backers hope that as acceptance grows for Paul's "revolution," so does the chance that a similar candidate – perhaps Rand Paul, whose views are much more electable – might one day win the White House.

The Book Store 6

Greetings, Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Dresden for The Book Store.

This time, I figured I'd go back to a classic work of literature again, thus, I chose To Kill a Mockingbird. Written by Harper Lee, and published in 1960, To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel set in the early 1900s Alabama, a time when racism was still an accepted part of society. It details the life of two small children, Jem and Scout, and their father Atticus Finch, over a series of years. The novel is beautifully written and a very enjoyable read. Loaded with subtle and overt symbolism, the story teaches you a lesson without boring you, and the plot is engrossing from the first page.

However, there is a certain amount of culture clash between the time this novel is set in and the modern world. And at some points the point of view, that of a child, is inadequate to properly convey some information properly.

Review Score: 9/10

Poltical Minute: How Primaries Work

How do Political Primaries work? Well here's a short guide that scratches the surface for the general voter. Remember, stay educated America.

A primary closely resembles a general election -- when voters choose between candidates from each party for office. In a primary, however, the voter casts his or her vote to determine who will go onto the general election. This is a primary in a nutshell. Although primaries are more straightforward than caucuses-- which also help choose a party's candidate for president -- the primary process as a whole is somewhat convoluted.

Primaries can be closed or open. For simplicity's sake, let's start with the closed primary. In this type, only registered voters affiliated with a given party have the chance to go to the polls to cast their vote for their chosen candidate within that party. In closed primaries, only Republicans can vote for Republicans and Democrats for Democrats. Independent voters -- those who have opted to choose neither party, but are registered voters -- aren't allowed to cast a ballot. A closed primary can be modified to allow independents to cast a vote for a candidate from one party or another.

In open primaries, a voter can cast his or her ballot for either party. In most cases, the voter must choose a party to vote for by making a public statement at the polling station. In this circumstance, the voter will tell the election volunteer which party he or she chooses to vote for. He or she will then receive a ballot containing the candidates for that party. In some open primaries, voters may choose which party's candidate to vote for privately in the polling booth.

The goal of the primaries is to choose the party's candidate for president. In order for a candidate to receive the nomination, he or she has to win delegates. There are generally two ways to win delegates in primaries. In some cases candidates win by proportion. If a state has 100 delegates and a candidate wins 60 percent of the vote in the state's primary, then that candidate will have 60 delegates from that state at the national convention -- the party nomination night. Other states use the winner-takes-all method. This sounds exactly like what it is: A candidate who wins the majority of the vote in a primary -- 51 percent -- wins all of that state's delegates.

Some favor the proportional method because it closely reflects the feelings of a state's voters. Others favor winner-takes-all, because it keeps primaries competitive by allowing candidates to come from behind with huge gains in key states.
When a candidate wins delegates in a state -- either by proportion of votes or winner-takes-all -- those delegates are presumed to be committed to voting for that candidate at the convention. Each party has a finite number of delegates who are up for grabs in the primaries. In 2008, the Republican Party had around 2,308 delegates; Democrats offered 4,364 delegates [source: U.S. State Department].

To win his or her party's nomination in the presidential race, a candidate must accrue the majority of the delegates. This can be as narrow a victory as just one delegate. A tie may result in more rounds of voting, and the numbers can easily change; a delegate is usually allowed to change his or her vote after the first round of voting.

Delegates are usually people who are involved in their state's politics. They may be volunteers, local party chairs or other interested citizens. In addition to delegates, states also offer uncommitted delegates. These people -- sometimes called superdelegates -- are usually elected officials from the state. Superdelegates can vote for whichever candidate they see fit, regardless of the primary turnout.

I hope this short guide helped any confused voters out there. Being educated is the first step to helping end low voter turnout.

Political Minute: Political Primary Information

What’s that smell? It’s the smell of the political primaries. A little slander, some exaggeration, and maybe a dash of bull mixed somewhere in there. Oh, how I love politics.

With the upcoming presidential race, we all know the 4 candidates for the Republican nomination. Romney, with 519 pledged delegates; Santorum, with 239; Gingrich, with 138; and Paul, with 69.

It is fairly clear that the nomination will go to Romney, although one can never be too sure. But will he beat out Obama for Presidency? Only time will tell, as Obama has nearly 50% approval ratings with Americans.

As a politically active young adult, I encourage voter turnout this political season. Every vote counts. The saddening part about voter turnout is the lack of knowledge about the candidates. Why not let me enlighten you?

Here’s the four candidates in a nutshell.

Romney: Anti nation-wide health care, supports eliminating estate tax, increase in troops in Afghanistan, opposed to same sex marriage.

Santorum: Pro tax cuts, anti health care as well, for American oil drilling, against abortion and same sex marriage, and increase in immigration laws.

Gingrich: Against health care reform, increase in tax cuts, intolerant of Islam, Increase in border control, anti abortion and gay marriage.

Paul: Strongly against government spending, pro states rights, anti-abortion, believes gays are no different than anyone else, pro legalization of marijuana, supporter of guns rights, and anti welfare.

While many of their views are the same, they all have skeletons in their closets that are affecting the voter outcome. Trying to be unbiased, I left these out. Be a good U.S. citizen and do some research, and remember! Hit the polls!

Battlefield 3 Review

Ladies, Gentlemen, this is Dresden. This is a review from contributor Killian B. so keep in mind that I'm just posting this, all the content, excepting some proofreading, is his.

All right the game of the week, this week, is Battlefield 3, for the PS3, PC, and Xbox360. For all you BF2 lovers out there, BF3 is on a whole new level of gameplay. Frostbite (the studio that produces the Battlefield games) has crafted one of the best game of the year, in my opinion. The new interface is a great addition to the gameplay. This game is also, in my opinion, better than MW3 if only because it has superior maps and missions. The multiplayer gameplay is some of the best I've seen in years. It looks and seems
realistic and you can go all out, destroying buildings and just blowing up stuff in a whole new way with different weapons and new vehicles. For all of you snipers out there, BF3 has the best sniper combat in all the "modern combat" games. They have really outdone themselves with all the sniper rifles, to such a point where, if you're good at sniping, you can kill someone all the way across the map. The Back to Karakand map is the best for all the nostalgic lovers of BF2 you get new weapons, and 3 new vehicles and maps, that's about all I have to say about Battlefield 3.

Note: The views and opinions expressed in this review are solely those of Killian B. This site is in no way affiliated with these opinions.

Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, have a pleasant evening.

Manning goes to Denver!

The "old" quarterback the for the Indianapolis Colts has had a rough time sincee his injury. Previously a free agent Manning signed with the Denver Broncos. This leaves skeptics to believe what will they do with Tim Tebow? Its unsure but Tebow may have a future else where. All eyes will be on Denver for the next couple of weeks and we'll be watching for sure.

The Comic Highlight 2

Greetings, Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Dresden here, writing this edition of the Comic Highlight.

So, this time I have decided to shift my focus from a villain to a, well, perhaps not hero, but certainly neutral at the very least. I speak of Wade Wilson, A.K.A. Deadpool, the "Merc With a Mouth." Nigh-immortal and invincible, skilled with both gun and sword, and perfectly aware that he is, in fact, in a comic book, Deadpool has always been a popular character in the Marvel Universe, his antics entertaining millions.

Wilson's origins are difficult to pin down. Before he was artificially given mutant powers Wilson was a member of U.S. Special Forces, before going on to become a prolific mercenary, however, he was eventually diagnosed with cancer, and he desperately searched for some sort of cure. This led to him being noticed and targeted by Weapon X, the same project that bonded adamantium to Wolverine's skeleton. They gave him an artificial healing factor, derived from Wolverine's naturally occurring one. It was either this process, or the years of torturous experiments that Weapon X put him through that completely broke Wilson's mind. He eventually escaped containment, and went on to become an infamous international assassin, known for always completing a job, and for never shutting up. Ever.

As always, my friends, stay reading, this is Dresden, signing off.

Star Wars: The Old Republic

"This new addition to the Star Wars gaming Saga has some of the original characteristics of the other games of the series such as the two sides, the Sith and the Jedi knights, the same weapons( blaster pistols, jet packs, lightsabers, etc.). But there are also some differences in that you can choose your side and your story as you play through the W.O.W-esque game. The game is set nearly 3000 years before the rise of Darth Vader (or for you star wars geeks Dark Father) during the time of the cold war between the Jedi and Sith begins. The side and class you choose will define your character's story and role in the galaxy at large. As you may know already, this game is a MMORPG ( Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) allowing you to play with your friends to complete quests, or just to fight random strangers from across the globe. According to Gamestop this "isn't the next step in online gaming, its a next step in entertainment." Seeing as this is a prelude of the movies you won't see the characters that you know and love, unless you've been keeping up with Old Republic chronology. The game is sold directly in stores and only for PC. The initial cost of the game is more expensive compared to W.O.W, seeing as the base discs costs 40 dollars and the subscription fee is $20 per month. Players on a budget would possibly be better to get World of Warcraft. This is, essentially, a watered down version of Star Wars and W.O.W put together, so if you like Star Wars play the game. However, personally, it is just like W.o.W but a lot more expensive, which leads to me giving this game a 3/5
As you play the game you will notice the similar game setting of the original games and movies including the species, locations, and organizations of the well-developed Star Wars galaxy included among the many iconic features of the acclaimed series. Some of the returning species include the Gungans, Jawas, Chiss, and many more. The different classes to choose from are a bit generic for the series, they include the bounty hunter, smuggler, troopers, Jedi knight, Jedi consular, Sith warriors, Sith inquisitors, and a few select others. This is a game for the average gamer to play on the weekend to calm down and relax with a headset in ear, mouse in left/ right hand, and key board in lap with your computer hooked up to the big screen. This is a great game to play for advanced and beginning gamers alike." By Noah C. The Book Store 5

Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Dresden for The Book Store.

I hope you all have had a pleasant week, and will go on to have yet another one. Today I'm going to review the first book of A Song of Ice and Fire, A Game of Thrones. These books, specifically this first one, have gotten a lot of hype lately, due to an excellent HBO series being made about it. Now, I'm not going to lie to you fine readers, these books are not for the faint of heart, even in hardback and large sized print, they clock in at over a thousand pages. The story is vastly complex and confusing, hard to follow at times, and many chapters may require a careful re-reading to fully understand their events. That said, these books are absolutely fascinating, and a real joy to read, the intrigue is deep, the violence is beautifully done, and the characters are real people, with their flaws and their virtues.

The plot is absolutely enthralling, and I can't reveal much of it without spoiling a whole heaping helping of interesting events.

Comic Highlight

Greetings, Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Dresden.

So I know I usually do books and whatnot, but I decided that another of my interests deserved to be written about. I like comic book characters, I don't have the cash or the dedication to really read comics regularly, thus I read about characters on the internet. So I decided to, from time to time, do a spotlight on my favorite characters from comic books. Thus, for this first entry, I decided to do my favorite character from Marvel. The Hood. So, here's his official origin story.

A petty thief, Parker Robbins broke into a warehouse with his cousin one night and shot and killed a demon residing there. Not wanting to leave empty handed, he stole the beasts' cloak and boots, enabling him to fly and become invisible while holding his breath. It wasn't until the Civil War that Robbins was able to truly put these abilities to work for him. Assembling a massive criminal empire, The Hood was largely successful running a gang of super-villains, and slowly became addicted to the power and respect.

I like this character because, without his cloak and boots, he's just a guy with a gun. In addition I just like villains, they're so much more interesting than the heroes.

The Biz on Vidz

Alright dudes and dudettes! For this blog, I decided to review (and possibly make) videos for all your entertainent needs. For my first review, I want to show you all a video of a new Apple product! (Except not really, though.) Now, I know this video is kinda old, but for those of you who haven't seen it yet, click here for the video.
This video promotes the new Mactini. It is the smallest computer in the world! From the beginning of this vid, I was already laughing just because of the way the guy looks. He explains how to use the single-key keyboard, shows us a couple of its many uses, and even gives us a quick look at the Mactini's manual.  Now don't get me wrong, it isn't the funniest video ever. It is more of a quick video for kicks and giggles. But overall, I think you will like this video!

Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Dresden.

I recently wrote a short story, it came out at about 15,000 words and thirty-three pages. I'm thinking about posting it, chapter by chapter, here for all to enjoy. I was hoping you fine men and women wouldn't mind giving me some feedback on if you'd like to see it or not.

Dresden's Top 10

3. A Song of Ice and Fire
4. The Codex Alera
5. Dexter
6. The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel

The Book Store 3

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Dresden here for The Book Store.

Third review, really blowing through these. This time I'll be reviewing one of my new favorites, Heroes Die by Matthew Stover. Heroes Die is sort of difficult to categorize, due to its expert blend of fantasy and science fiction. Set in a dystopian future, where the world is run on a caste system, and companies have far more influence than nations, Heroes Die tells the story of the greatest actor in the world, Hari Michaelson, better known as Caine. In this future conventional acting no longer exists, all "actors" are sent to an alternate universe that could be best described as Dungeons and Dragons Earth. Magic is real, dragons fly through the sky, and elves defend the forests. They are sent on specialized missions that alter the very fate of this world, known as Overworld, and their thoughts and sensory input are recorded and sold as movies. Caine is the best of the best, the most popular of them all, and certainly the most brutal. He kills without a second thought, destroying his enemies utterly, and the people of Earth practically worship him for it.

This book is perhaps one of the darkest works of literature that I have ever read. The violence is written beautifully, the characters are gritty and real, and the cynicism runs over the brim. Stover takes delight in breaking down his characters, and in showing that there are no real heroes. Because heroes always die. I'm going to give this book a 9.5/10.

Anime Spotlight

Hey! So I figured that I would post a weekly segment called "Anime Spotlight" where I would recommend an anime that I had previously seen that I am either currently unable, or honestly just to lazy to do a review over. So, that being said, this weeks candidate in "Anime Spotlight" is Ao No Exorcist, or for any of you too lazy to go to a translator, Blue Exorcist haha. This is a very good anime that is well worth your time. It's about 25 episodes, and I can guarantee that you will be hooked from the first episode onward. Well that's it for this week, and I hope you look forward to my upcoming review of an anime that might not be new, but its new to me, and that is "Needless". I should be done with it by Saturday, so you can expect it to be up by Sunday, Monday at the latest. :) <3 ya people (:

Anime Review 1: This Weeks Anime "Deadman Wonderland"

Alright people, so for my first anime review, I figure that I should cover my favorite Anime, "Deadman Wonderland". Now I'm new to reviews, so bear with me people haha :) So this anime starts out 10 years after a major earthquake that destroyed Tokyo, with our protagonist, Ganta Igarashi, sitting in homeroom watching a video of an amusement park/prison, Deadman Wonderland, where the inmates are the attractions. Turns out that his class is planning a holiday trip there in the upcoming weeks, and he wanted to get a view at what it was. Skip forward in the day, just another boring moment in a school that we've all experienced, except that out of the window is floating a man in blood covered armor! Naturally, all of the students panic, and our Ganta faints after taking a nasty hit. When he comes to, his entire class is slaughtered, blood covers the ceiling, floor, and walls, and the mysterious "Red Man" is waiting. A crystal materializes in his hand, which he proceeds to embed in Ganta's chest. Through a crazy turn of events, Ganta is found guilty of the murder of his 29 classmates, and is sentenced to death in the very same prison his class was going to visit, Deadman Wonderland. Now people, this is the first 10 minutes, and I gotta say that I WAS HOOKED. This anime is stunning visually, it has a good story, GREAT voice casting, and it really makes you look at just how twisted us we humans can really be. It is a story of hardship, of the acceptance that reality is not always perfect, and in just these 12 episodes, YOU WILL be wanting more. That's where the manga comes in, because sadly, the ending leaves a lot to be desired on the anime, but that's about.....1/4 of the way through the manga, maybe 1/3 if you're being generous. That being said, this is a great anime to see, definitely if you're into the more macabre style of anime, as it is very bloody. I hope you had fun reading this, and I hope that you will want to watch this. Like I said though people, this was my first review EVER, so cut me some slack, 'k? <3

Anime 'R Us

OK people, I'm Abraxis and I'm happy to bring you your weekly dose of anime! I'm gonna be pumping out at least 1 of these a week, because of the simple fact that some are quite a bit longer than others *cough* Fairy Tail *cough* haha. Now, this is going to be a cluster of new, upcoming titles, but we're also going to be looking at old favorites. Expect one of these....around every Tuesday and Saturday, depending on the length of the anime in question, and I hope that you guys will enjoy what I have to give :). I will also take requests on anime, so if you have one that you were curious about, but don't know if you'd like it, I'd be happy to waste my time for ya XD. So, if you'd like to request an anime, just shoot me either A) a comment, by far the easiest way, or B) an email, at csbomgardner@gmail.com

Gamer's Gamble: Game of Fame

Alright so the Game of Fame this week happens to be Mass Effect 3. This title has been out almost a week and I haven't finished it yet due to time constraints (shame on me), but I am far enough into it to tell you how Amazing it is! Now if you haven't played the other two titles, this game will really not make sense to you but if you have, like me, you will fall in love with this game. The story builds on the character relationships established on the earlier titles making your friendships and sacrifices that much more meaningful to you. The voice acting is as amazing as ever and the graphics are really beautiful. The game has a high focus on combat, much greater than before, but it feels smoother and polished. By the way those of you with kinect will be pleased to know that the voice controls make combat that much better. The only problems worth noting are the same dumb AI , and a few texture glitches that can cause major problems such as a mission restart, but they are few and can easily be overlooked. I feel as though they finally made a game more successful than the first.

MY SCORE       10/10

Gamer's Gamble

Hey there wolves, this is Shadowblade with a new segment called Gamer's Gamble. Are you tired of wasting money on games that look good but suck once you get home? Well fret no more because this segment will offer reviews for old and new games on a weekly basis (Hopefully, depending on my time....) If I haven't reviewed a game that you are curious about, shoot me a comment and I'll look into it. Although I do not have a PS3 as of now so you guys asking about those titles may be out of luck for a while...

The Book Store 2

Okay, so, second entry.

This time I figured I'd go with a classic of literature, The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. And when I say classic, I mean classic. 1200s to be exact. Unless you can read Old Latin or Italian I'd recommend you pick up a translated and annotated version. I picked this up kind of on a whim, and I loved reading it. The vast majority of the story is allegory and meaning that isn't immediately apparent, and the whole thing is written poetically, but that shouldn't put you gents off. If you plan on reading this I would highly recommend that you pick up a version with annotations, thus you can have the more difficult allegories explained, and get all the 12th century political references that Dante makes. Secondly, have a computer with internet access opened up next to you when you read, because you'll likely need to look up some of the references the book makes.

On the whole, a fantastic read. I'd recommend anyone with a deep interest in literature to pick it up. However the archaic poetic language and deep political referencing diminish its appeal to the modern reader. That aside, I'm gonna give this one a 7/10.

Stay reading my friends, and, as always, This is Dresden signing off.

The Book Store

Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Dresden. So, I figured that the best thing I could contribute to this blog was something I was best at. Naturally, I chose books. Basically I'll be posting reviews, recommendations, and suggestions of the best books I know.

To start this off I picked the first book of the Dresden Files, Storm Front. Keep in mind this book is rated M for Manly, but it's a great read. The story is set during a generally modern time period, it's kept deliberately ambiguous in the story, though the latest books are supposed to be right around the present day. The narrative starts by quite boldly stating that almost all myths and legends have some basis in fact. There are indeed wizards, vampires, ghosts, werewolves, and pretty much anything else you can imagine. The book, and subsequent sequels, follow the character of Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, Private Investigator, and Professional Wizard. In a world where the supernatural is determined to stay secret and never be noticed, Harry openly advertises as a wizard, solving supernatural problems for people with no other hope. However this premise is really the only departure from reality in the entire series. The rest of it stays beautifully plausible, so much so that the behavior of fire magic follows the Laws of Thermodynamics.

Action in this book is never far away, and the plot moves like a roller coaster ride. Though not in the first book, the character of Harry evolves dramatically over the course of the series, and it is a true delight to read about his adventures through his highly sarcastic and sardonic viewpoint. I give it a 9/10. To be honest, the only reason it isn't a 10/10 is that I've read the rest of the series and they just blow it out of the water.
