Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Dresden. So, I figured that the best thing I could contribute to this blog was something I was best at. Naturally, I chose books. Basically I'll be posting reviews, recommendations, and suggestions of the best books I know.
To start this off I picked the first book of the Dresden Files, Storm Front. Keep in mind this book is rated M for Manly, but it's a great read. The story is set during a generally modern time period, it's kept deliberately ambiguous in the story, though the latest books are supposed to be right around the present day. The narrative starts by quite boldly stating that almost all myths and legends have some basis in fact. There are indeed wizards, vampires, ghosts, werewolves, and pretty much anything else you can imagine. The book, and subsequent sequels, follow the character of Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, Private Investigator, and Professional Wizard. In a world where the supernatural is determined to stay secret and never be noticed, Harry openly advertises as a wizard, solving supernatural problems for people with no other hope. However this premise is really the only departure from reality in the entire series. The rest of it stays beautifully plausible, so much so that the behavior of fire magic follows the Laws of Thermodynamics.
Action in this book is never far away, and the plot moves like a roller coaster ride. Though not in the first book, the character of Harry evolves dramatically over the course of the series, and it is a true delight to read about his adventures through his highly sarcastic and sardonic viewpoint. I give it a 9/10. To be honest, the only reason it isn't a 10/10 is that I've read the rest of the series and they just blow it out of the water.
Stay reading my friends, and, as always, this is Dresden, signing off.
