What’s that smell? It’s the smell of the political primaries. A little slander, some exaggeration, and maybe a dash of bull mixed somewhere in there. Oh, how I love politics.
With the upcoming presidential race, we all know the 4 candidates for the Republican nomination. Romney, with 519 pledged delegates; Santorum, with 239; Gingrich, with 138; and Paul, with 69.
It is fairly clear that the nomination will go to Romney, although one can never be too sure. But will he beat out Obama for Presidency? Only time will tell, as Obama has nearly 50% approval ratings with Americans.
As a politically active young adult, I encourage voter turnout this political season. Every vote counts. The saddening part about voter turnout is the lack of knowledge about the candidates. Why not let me enlighten you?
Here’s the four candidates in a nutshell.
Romney: Anti nation-wide health care, supports eliminating estate tax, increase in troops in Afghanistan, opposed to same sex marriage.
Santorum: Pro tax cuts, anti health care as well, for American oil drilling, against abortion and same sex marriage, and increase in immigration laws.
Gingrich: Against health care reform, increase in tax cuts, intolerant of Islam, Increase in border control, anti abortion and gay marriage.
Paul: Strongly against government spending, pro states rights, anti-abortion, believes gays are no different than anyone else, pro legalization of marijuana, supporter of guns rights, and anti welfare.
While many of their views are the same, they all have skeletons in their closets that are affecting the voter outcome. Trying to be unbiased, I left these out. Be a good U.S. citizen and do some research, and remember! Hit the polls!
Glad to have you on the writing staff Richard.
